"Life is a song to sing. I devote myself to listen to good music." - C. Nageshwar Rao
C. Nageshwar Rao ws born and brought up in village - Bhonagiri in Nalgonda District. Since childhood, he used to sing old film songs of Sri Ghantasala Garu ( the renowned telugu playback singer) in school and at various functions. Encouraged by all, his passion has driven him on the right track to learn more songs and entertain others.
He has learnt music under the guidance of Late. Master K. Jangaiah Garu who is blind and retired music lecturer from Govt. College of Music and Dance.
According to him music is a natural gift and requires a lot of practice with patience and determination. It entertains the audience irrespective of caste and religion. Music should be commercialized not only to develop patriotism and divinity in life, bu also to soothe each soul.
Folk music is a rustic reflection of the larger Indian society. Folk songs have historical importance and ethnological significance because they belong to different periods and different tribes. Every form of vocal and instrumental music has its origin in folk songs and folk tales. Folk music has freshness and spontaneity. On the other hand, film music is developed and tuned to the situation required for the scene by the director of the film.
Folk music is not taught in the same way that Indian classical music is taught. There is no formal period of apprenticeship where the student is able to devote his entire life to learning music; the economics of rural life does not permit this sort of thing. The musical practitioners must still attend to their normal duties of hunting, agriculture or whatever their chosen profession is.
C. Nageshwar Rao is more inclined to folk music and art rather than filmy music because it is open, free and frank, nothing to hide. The survival of cultural heritage is only becaused of folk arts. Music in the village is learned almost by osmosis. From his childhood music is heard and imbibed along with one's mother milk. There are numerous public activities that allow the villagers to practice and hone their skills. Music is an indispensable component of functions and there is plethora of songs for every occasion. In their daily activities, the villagers routinely sing of their hopes, fears and aspirations.
